For Raymond, Medicare Advantage Works.
MARCH 16, 2017
In 2007, Raymond Flanders and his wife Isabel became eligible for Medicare. They spoke with a professional, did some research and decided to participate in a Medicare Advantage Plan. What they didn’t know then, was that this would be a decision that would keep them in their home and save them from financial ruin.
Isabel, Raymond’s wife of over fifty years, was diagnosed with cancer in late 2015 and sadly passed away in the Fall of 2016. As her treatment costs in that year and a half soared to almost $1.2 million dollars, the Flanders out of pocket costs were minimal thanks to Medicare Advantage.
“Medicare Advantage offers financial security and peace of mind, particularly for seniors on a limited income,” Raymond noted. “Because of Medicare Advantage I was able to pay for my wife’s cancer treatments without going bankrupt.”
Raymond’s home is filled with memories of Isabel, her quilting room, her hand made rugs, her needlepoint pillows, her love. The Medicare Advantage Plan cannot bring Isabel back to Raymond, but it did allow him to stay in the home he made with his beloved wife. Said Raymond “Without Medicare Advantage, I would be financially bankrupt.”
