Pennsylvania Seniors Take a Stand for Medicare Advantage
DECEMBER 14, 2016
Seniors from the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) joined a meeting in Lancaster with Representative-elect Lloyd Smucker to discuss the importance of the Medicare Advantage program to seniors in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Local seniors shared their personal stories with Representative-elect Smucker about how Medicare Advantage plans are providing high-quality, affordable coordinated care, and the importance of preserving seniors’ choices when it comes to health care.
In Pennsylvania, more than 1 million beneficiaries have chosen Medicare Advantage plans for their high-quality, affordable coverage. Seniors from the Coalition asked Representative-elect Smucker to work to protect Medicare Advantage benefits when he arrives in Congress in January.
“Medicare Advantage is vital to seniors across Pennsylvania, especially those on fixed incomes,” said CMC member Shirley Cressman. “It’s important that Medicare Advantage is protected and we’re grateful to Representative-elect Smucker for his support.”
Medicare Advantage is the part of Medicare through which private health plans provide comprehensive health care coverage to seniors and individuals with disabilities. Nationwide, more than 17 million Americans choose Medicare Advantage because of the higher-quality care, financial protections, and added benefits these health care plans provide. Research shows that 9 out of 10 Medicare Advantage beneficiaries are satisfied with their coverage.
