Seniors Meeting with Members of Congress in 30 States to Urge Bipartisan Support for Medicare Advantage
With health care taking center stage in Washington, seniors from the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) are joining meetings across the country with their elected representatives, urging them to support and protect the Medicare Advantage program. Lawmakers are back home this week for the first time since the start of 2017, and seniors from the Coalition are taking the opportunity to share stories about how Medicare Advantage plans are providing high-quality health care while keeping costs down.
“While there is so much discussion going on in Washington about health care in our country, and what’s not working, I’m glad to see that many members of Congress are taking the time to learn about Medicare Advantage,” said Carol Berman, a CMC member from Boca Raton, Florida. “It’s a program that provides seniors with options when choosing their health care. On behalf of the over than 18 million Americans on Medicare Advantage, I hope more Members of Congress take the time to learn about this valuable program.”
Just last month, 65 members of the U.S. Senate – Republicans and Democrats alike – took a stand to protect seniors who rely on Medicare Advantage for their health care coverage. The CMC is organizing in person meetings with their representatives to reinforce their bipartisan support for this invaluable coverage option.
“I want to thank the Members of Congress who are taking time out of their schedules this week to meet with seniors about Medicare Advantage,” said Don and Peggy Purdy of Des Moines, Iowa. “Medicare Advantage is providing affordability and helping keep seniors healthy, and it’s important our elected representatives be advocates for us in Congress.”
Seniors and individuals with disabilities rely on the Medicare Advantage program, which is the part of Medicare through which private health plans provide comprehensive medical coverage. Beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage because of the better services, higher-quality care, and additional benefits health plans provide.
