Coalition Members Meet Virtually with Representative Luria

November 4, 2021

Three Virginia members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met with Representative Elaine Luria (D-VA-02) to discuss how Medicare Advantage provides high-quality health care for seniors and people with disabilities.

Representative Luria opened the meeting by thanking everyone for joining her and noting how great it was to see her constituents.

Coalition member Kim said that Medicare Advantage has been especially important for seniors living on fixed incomes. Kim’s Medicare Advantage plan has a $0 monthly premium and her copays for doctor visits have been minimal. She also pointed out that Medicare Advantage is easy to use, and there are always representatives available when she needs to talk to someone.

Barbara, another Coalition member, shared that she and her husband are both grateful for Medicare Advantage. Having worked in health care for more than 20 years, she was familiar with various health plans and knew she wanted to enroll in Medicare Advantage. She added that she enjoys the preventative services offered by her Medicare Advantage coverage and the level of care she receives.

Coalition member Dottie told the group about her personal experience with Medicare Advantage. When she left the house for a short errand a few years ago, she had a medical emergency while driving and didn’t return home for over 6 months. During her recovery, Medicare Advantage was there every step of the way. She was lucky to have a case management team that always checked up on her, and at the end of her recovery, her out-of-pocket costs were low.

Representative Luria thanked the Coalition members for their stories saying, “it’s nice to hear from you personally how satisfied you are with Medicare Advantage. Stories like this make an impact.”

The CMC is grateful to Representative Luria for meeting with our Coalition members.
