Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Office of Representative Allred

Two members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently participated in a virtual meeting with the office of Representative Colin Allred (D-TX-32) where they discussed the important role Medicare Advantage plays in bringing quality health care to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Coalition member Aletha is a retired state employee and has been on Medicare Advantage for many years. She said many of her friends who enjoy the program initially encouraged her to enroll, and she remains on Medicare Advantage because of the great benefits. She said Medicare Advantage makes the health care process easy, by having one card for everything and taking care of her billing. When Aletha had to go to the hospital, she said an employee told her,  “’We never see a zero charge for an emergency room visit, but we aren’t going to charge you because of your plan.’” The extra money she saves on health care is amazing, Aletha added.

Leroy, another Coalition member, said he has only been on Medicare Advantage 18 months but already enjoys the simplicity of his care. As a result of a military service exposure to agent orange, , Leroy has  to take nine pills a day, which he said would not be affordable without Medicare Advantage. Leroy added that he enjoys his plan’s zero-dollar deductible.

Representative Allred’s staff member said, “It sounds like MA is working well for our seniors. Congressman Allred supports both Medicare and Medicare Advantage to ensure seniors get the care they need. It’s so helpful to hear directly from seniors about what’s working and what isn’t. Please keep me informed.”

The CMC is grateful to the office of Representative Allred for meeting with our Coalition members and for his continued support of Medicare Advantage.
