Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Office of Representative Kurt Schrader

Members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met virtually with the office of Representative Kurt Schrader (D-OR-5) to discuss how Medicare Advantage provides affordable, high-quality health care to seniors and people with disabilities.

Coalition member Jeff began the meeting by sharing his Medicare Advantage story. Recently retired after working in the aviation industry, Jeff chose a Medicare Advantage plan after doing detailed research and finding a health care plan that allowed him to keep his doctors once he retired. One of the reasons he chose Medicare Advantage is because it provided hearing benefits which were very important to him. He also likes that his Medicare Advantage plan allows him to access traditional health care as well as dental, vision, and hearing all in one health plan.

Angela, another Coalition member, said that she chose Medicare Advantage because it has everything she needs to stay healthy at an affordable cost. She also shared with the group that she was diagnosed with a condition that forces her to get injections once a month. Her Medicare Advantage plan covers the cost of the injections with minimal out-of-pocket costs to her.

Another coalition member said he injured his spinal cord in a diving accident that caused paralysis from the chest down. He can’t get out of bed without assistance, needs prescription drug coverage, and other critical ancillary medical supplies, such as colostomy bags. His Medicare Advantage plan provides him with all the medical supplies he needs to take care of his health. In addition, he appreciates that his Medicare Advantage plan helps him to understand the details of his coverage, and the benefits he receives.

Representative Schrader’s staff thanked everyone for sharing their stories, and noted that, “The Congressman is a huge proponent of Medicare Advantage. He thinks it’s a good partnership between the government and the private sector.”
