Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Office of Senator Bob Casey

October 21, 2021

Members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met virtually with the office of U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) to discuss how Medicare Advantage provides affordable, high-quality health care to seniors and people with disabilities.

Coalition member Laurie began the meeting by sharing her Medicare Advantage story. She signed up for Medicare Advantage last year and she has been very impressed with her coverage. Several years ago, Laurie assisted her parents in selecting their own Medicare Advantage plans. She was so glad she could find a plan that covered them in both their home state of Pennsylvania and in Florida, where they stay for the winter.

Barb, another coalition member, shared that she is very happy with the “peace of mind” her Medicare Advantage plan gives her. She also said that the vision and dental benefits “made a huge difference” for her because “it’s affordable and [she and her husband] would have had to save a great deal otherwise.”

Jeff, Barb’s husband, echoed his wife’s sentiments. He is currently getting hearing aid assistance and has found everything was explained very clearly. He added that when he recently had knee surgery, he knew before the procedure exactly what his costs would be. He encouraged Senator Casey to continue supporting the Medicare Advantage program.

Coalition member Kellie shared that she has been working with seniors to select insurance plans for 10 years, and has helped thousands of Pennsylvania seniors find the right Medicare Advantage plans. She said seniors greatly appreciate the ability to tailor their plans to best meet their needs. Kellie told the story of a veteran she helped who was eligible for no-cost hearing aids through the VA, but he was unable to travel to the VA facility to take advantage of the benefit. Kellie explained to him that through his Medicare Advantage plan he could have his transportation costs covered, which allowed him to get the hearing aids he needed.

Kellie’s husband Chris, who works with her in the insurance business, shared that seniors are highly concerned with money and expenses. Medicare Advantage gives them “security financially and keeps out-of-pocket costs low.” He went on to say that Medicare Advantage allows him to identify the right plan for each individual, and that losing Medicare Advantage would “be a real issue for seniors.”

Senator Casey’s staff thanked everyone for sharing their stories, and said that the Senator has long been a supporter of Medicare Advantage.

The CMC is grateful to the office of Senator Casey for meeting with our Coalition members and for his support of Medicare Advantage.
