Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Offices of Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto

December 22, 2021

Four members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met virtually with the offices of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) to discuss the high-quality, affordable health care seniors and individuals with disabilities can access through Medicare Advantage.

Coalition member Ana said that she loves the choices Medicare Advantage provides because she can choose the plan that best fits her needs. She appreciates being able to see the same doctor that she has known for 15 years, and the preventative measures including education programs, fitness programs, and reminders for screenings and services. She added that she saves over $350 a month thanks to her prescription drug coverage.

James, another Coalition member, shared that he loves Medicare Advantage. His doctors have also helped him to adjust his diet, and he joined a gym, which are some of the preventative aspects of Medicare Advantage that make a big difference for him. He added, “health is cheaper than health care.”

CMC advocate Brenda, who recently joined Medicare Advantage, said she received a lot of information from her community, where many people are retired. She said that it would be an economic disadvantage to her community if they didn’t have Medicare Advantage, if the premiums went up, or if the benefits were reduced, especially for those on fixed incomes. The pandemic was especially concerning for seniors, so telehealth, delivery services, and transportation benefits have all been incredibly important.

Coalition member Rahim shared that he has been on Medicare Advantage since 2018 and enjoys the annual vision and hearing checks as well as dental cleaning. When he had a retina issue, he appreciated that his Medicare Advantage plan helped him monitor and care for the problem. He also likes the reminders for flu shots and other health screenings.

Senator Rosen’s staff thanked the participants for their stories and said Senator Rosen is supportive of Medicare Advantage, and signed on to the letter against cuts to the program.

Senator Cortez Masto’s staff added that she would let the Senator know that her constituents rely on Medicare Advantage.

The CMC is grateful to the offices of Senator Cortez Masto and Senator Rosen for meeting with our Coalition members and for their support of Medicare Advantage.
