Coalition Members Meet with Representative Miller

Eight members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met with Representative Carol Miller (R-WV-03) to thank her for supporting Medicare Advantage and to discuss the important role the program plays in delivering high-quality, affordable health care to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Coalition member Bill has been retired for 24 years and serves on the Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) Finance Board. “We appreciate Medicare Advantage through PEIA as a Finance Board member and through our membership,” he said. “Fortunately, during the last 24 years, I’ve had very little illness, but in the past two years, I’ve had two surgeries. Those two surgeries cost me $200.” He added that the cost of prescription medications is reasonable and affordable.

Robin, another Coalition member, shared that Medicare Advantage was by far the best option when she was choosing a plan for retirement. “I appreciate the openness and communication of Medicare Advantage,” she said, adding that she feels well taken care of, which is very important to her.

Coalition member Charmel has been on Medicare Advantage for several years and said she enjoys the coverage. She is the incoming president of the PEIA and said Medicare Advantage is a big topic for members. Medicare Advantage provides essential, affordable care, she said, and everything is accessible, which is important for rural communities.

Representative Miller told the group, “Thank you to all of the seniors who spent the afternoon with me and shared their Medicare experiences. Everyone needs efficient, effective, and affordable health care options that suit their needs. Medicare Advantage is exactly that. It offers our seniors the same benefits as Medicare, but also offers additional ones like vision, hearing, and dental. I am committed to supporting Medicare Advantage in Congress, and making sure West Virginia’s seniors have access to comprehensive, reliable, affordable health coverage choices.” She added, “Having 153,000 Medicare Advantage members in West Virginia says a lot.”

The CMC is grateful to Representative Miller for meeting with our Coalition members and presented her with a Medicare Advantage champion award to acknowledge her continued support of Medicare Advantage.
