Coalition Members Meet with the Office of Representative Houlahan

Three members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met with the office of Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-06) to share their experiences with Medicare Advantage and how the program provides better services, better access to care, and better value.

Coalition member Marcia said she likes that her Medicare Advantage service representative is always able to answer her questions. Through her plan, Marcia has an annual home health visit where a nurse checks her vitals, reviews her medication, and conducts a mental health screening. When she completes preventive tests, Marcia said she also receives a $50 gift card from her plan. She added that the low out-of-pocket costs and general savings from Medicare Advantage are important to her.

Kellie, a Coalition advocate, has worked with seniors for more than 15 years and has found that they consistently enjoy their Medicare Advantage coverage. She said the preventive care services are an important added benefit that enrolled seniors really appreciate. She noted that one of her clients needed to visit the Cleveland Clinic, and Medicare Advantage covered all the logistical arrangements including transportation.

Coalition advocate Chris reiterated that Medicare Advantage helps seniors manage their health care effectively. He said the program helps seniors assess their needs and find a plan that suits them best. Original Medicare has fewer benefits for seniors to choose, he said, but Medicare Advantage has all the benefits people need in one place. Chris added that he sees more clients switching to Medicare Advantage every year.

Representative Houlahan is “a big supporter of the program and recognizes the benefits of Medicare Advantage especially with the increased cost of Medicare Part B,” her staff member told the group.

The CMC is grateful to the office of Representative Houlahan for meeting with our Coalition members and for her support of Medicare Advantage.
