Coalition Members Meet with the Office of Senator Schumer

Three members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met with the office of Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to share their experiences with how Medicare Advantage provides better services, better access to care, and better value to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

During the virtual meeting, Coalition member Laura explained that she was a medical researcher for many years. As a breast cancer survivor, she has a great appreciation for Medicare Advantage as it covers her necessary health care screenings and provides her with affordable care. “Medicare Advantage is my – and other seniors’ – gateway to good health,” Laura said.

Dan, another Coalition member, worked in Washington, D.C., for many years. He enrolled in Medicare Advantage as a retirement benefit and said he appreciates the program’s focus on preventive care. He described, as an example, the frequent health screening reminders he receives from Medicare Advantage. “I appreciate that Senator Schumer makes Medicare Advantage a priority and that we can count on him to be diligent,” Dan said, adding that affordable health care is a top priority for many seniors in New York.

CMC advocate Erin is a project coordinator with the Albany Guardian Society who works to improve the lives of seniors. She said that health care is a major concern for the people her organization serves. Especially with rising inflation, she said, seniors worry about affording health care and meals. Medicare Advantage ensures that seniors can afford the care they need, she said, and have peace of mind that their health care costs will remain in budget.

Senator Schumer’s staff member thanked everyone for participating and sharing their stories. He reiterated that Senator Schumer is a strong supporter of Medicare Advantage.

The CMC is grateful to the office of Senator Schumer for meeting with our seniors.
