Medicare Advantage: What They’re Saying

October 6, 2021

27 million Americans 65+ and people with disabilities choose Medicare Advantage for high-quality, affordable care. The program is widely supported – not only by Medicare Advantage members, but by federal policymakers as well. In fact, earlier this year, dozens of lawmakers from both parties, representing districts where the majority of eligible enrollees choose Medicare Advantage came together to support Medicare Advantage. These 70 lawmakers signed a letter to protect and strengthen Medicare Advantage for the tens of millions of Americans 65+ and individuals with disabilities who rely on it.

Throughout 2021, Coalition for Medicare Choices members from across the country spoke with their Members of Congress about the importance and value of Medicare Advantage. Here’s what lawmakers had to say about the program…

During a recent virtual conversation with Coalition members from Colorado, Senator Michael Bennet said, “There are a lot of proposals on the table right now, and we are looking for the best options for everybody. At this point we think Medicare Advantage is a plan worth fighting for and ensuring that cuts are not made to the program.”

After hearing about their overwhelmingly positive experiences with Medicare Advantage, Senator Tim Scott told our South Carolina Coalition members, “I’m going to continue to be a champion for [Medicare Advantage] on the Hill across the board.”

In one virtual meeting, Representative Joe Neguse from Colorado shared, “I’m certainly supportive of Medicare Advantage.” He went on to say, “I’m glad to hear [Medicare Advantage] is working so well for you all. The more we can do to strengthen the program, the better.

Representative Tony Cardenas from California told our Coalition members,Thank you for reminding me how critical it is that people like you can be here because you got the health care that you deserve.”

While speaking to Coalition members during a virtual meeting, Senator John Hickenlooper representing Colorado explained “I have always continued to support Medicare Advantage. I understand the diverse group of people who use Medicare Advantage. I try to thread a needle with most of my meetings, but with Medicare Advantage I don’t have to thread the needle here. I always support Medicare Advantage.”

Representative Kurt Schrader from Oregon expressed his commitment to the program when he told Coalition members, “I am going to be a Medicare Advantage type of person based on the testimony heard here.”

Coalition members also spoke virtually with Representative Annie Kuster from New Hampshire, who said, “Medicare Advantage has always been an important program to me.”

Medicare Advantage delivers better services, better access to care, and better value to 27 million Americans, which is why Members of Congress continue to demonstrate their support for this essential program.
