Representative Donna Shalala & Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell’s staff meet with Americans for Medicare Advantage

Florida Coalition members had several opportunities to engage South Florida’s congressional delegation – meeting with Rep. Donna Shalala herself and sitting down with the office of Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in February. During these meetings, Coalition members gave positive testimonials about Medicare Advantage to help Rep. Shalala and Rep. Mucarsel-Powell’s staff understand the importance of the program.

Coalition members who met with Rep. Shalala pointed to the program’s prescription drug coverage and free fitness membership. These additional benefits are usually included in Medicare Advantage plans at no extra cost, and are crucial to keeping Americans 65+ healthy. Rep. Shalala was quick to assure the group that she would continue fighting for the program in Congress as she understands how important it is to Americans 65+ in her district and across the country.

At the meeting with Rep. Mucarsel-Powell’s staff, Coalition members emphasized the massive presence of the Medicare Advantage program in South Florida. The representative’s staff was thankful to hear directly from constituents and encouraged by the support for the program in the district.
