Today, Coalition for Medicare Choices member Pat Braden of Pennsylvania joined a panel of Medicare Advantage experts on Capitol Hill to speak about the value of Medicare Advantage.

Pat—who had a successful nursing career before retirement—understood the need for reliable health care and Medicare Advantage was there to deliver. She shared how the program’s reliability played an invaluable role in her and her husband’s health for the past 15 years.

“Our Medicare Advantage plan gives us peace of mind,” she said. “In 2016, I had hip, shoulder, and cataract surgery, and I was able to qualify for coverage for all.”

Pat highlighted that unlike traditional Medicare, Medicare Advantage’s additional benefits help deliver the preventive care they need. “Nurse hotlines, the gym benefits, and transportation to get to doctors’ visits,” she said all help to keep them healthy.

Other participants included California Congressman Tony Cardenas, Shawn Bishop of the Commonwealth Fund, and Brian Coyne of Magellan Health. Each one shared their expertise to educate Congressional staff about the program. Attendees were greeted with a brief overview of the program, Americans’ satisfaction with the program, and how everyone can help protect it.
