Dear Editor,

Many years ago I chose Medicare Advantage as my healthcare plan and I consider it one of the best decisions I have ever made. As an active senior citizen, staying physically and mentally fit is one of my main priorities. Just to name a few benefits, my Medicare Advantage plan offers free cancer, diabetes and cholesterol screenings, plus dental and vision coverage.

I also want to make everyone aware that one important way that many of my friends and I remain physically active is through an outstanding program at the Summerville YMCA called Silver Sneakers. This age-appropriate fitness class, a benefit of my Medicare Advantage plan, offers a one-hour class several times a week as a way to stretch and work our bodies and help us combat the normal changes that come about with aging. A certified instructor leads us through various exercises using weights, bands and balls. An added benefit is that I’ve made many new friends.

Sir, the Medicare Advantage plan has historically had bipartisan support in Congress and I am hopeful that this year is no different. The continued federal funding is incredibly important to American seniors like me who are currently using it to stay physically and mentally healthy.

Very truly yours,

Carroll Devine
