Letter: Support for the Retired

It is a strong belief of mine that when you work for decades and give into our American economy, you should be supported after you retire.

In 2001, I retired from Gates Rubber Company, as did my husband. While we were employed, we always had access to quality health care through the Gates union, but a few years after retirement we made the switch to Medicare Advantage.

Seniors deserve high quality care, which is why I am such a strong supporter of the program. I decided to change my coverage because of the many benefits and affordable, well-rounded coverage I could access, and I am so thankful for the care I have received. This program is unlike any other in offering seniors like me access to a full range of services, including vision dental and wellness benefits, without asking us to pay exorbitant costs.

That is why potential cuts to the program are so disheartening. For seniors like myself and my husband who depend on Medicare Advantage for assurance that our health needs will be met, cuts to the program could result in our coverage becoming unaffordable.

I urge Senator Bennet and our other leaders in Washington to consider the impacts that cuts to Medicare Advantage would have. For seniors here in Colorado, this program has been life changing and we are counting on the continued care it provides. I hope you will fight for Medicare Advantage and promote the importance of senior health.
