Medicare Advantage is Affordable
March 22, 2024
By the numbers: More than 33 million Americans and people with disabilities choose Medicare Advantage (MA) because it delivers better services, better access to care, and better value. MA saves more money for seniors and people with disabilities compared to fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare.
The combination of better care with lower out-of-pocket costs is why MA is the choice for diverse and low-income beneficiaries and a growing number of seniors in rural communities.
- In 2024, the average monthly MA premium is expected to be $18.50.
- Individuals enrolled in MA save more than $2,400 on average with their health care premiums and out-of-pocket costs compared to seniors enrolled in FFS Medicare, savings that are particularly important because MA serves a population that is disproportionately low income.
- MA may also provide extra benefits, called supplemental benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing services, as well as wellness or nutrition benefits, none of which are covered by FFS Medicare.
- 99% of MA-eligible Americans have access to MA plans that include comprehensive prescription drug coverage with zero premium (beyond the Part B premium).
