Medicare Advantage (MA) ensures access to affordable, quality care for some of the most vulnerable Americans, including 4 million people living in rural areas who actively choose MA for their health coverage. MA enrollment has grown rapidly in rural communities: Seniors and people with disabilities can choose from more MA plan offerings than ever before. In addition to providing substantial cost savings for beneficiaries, the program allows plans to address health-related social needs, such as a lack of transportation services, by providing access to telehealth services and in-home care.
The standout stat: A study of rural hospitals in 14 states found that greater MA enrollment in an area increased rural hospitals’ financial stability and reduced the risk of hospital closure.
What they’re saying:
- “Senior citizens who are covered by Medicare Advantage — particularly in rural areas, in rural communities — have quality health care right at their fingertips,” says Ron from West Virginia.
- “Having Medicare Advantage helps me make sure that I’m doing everything I can to stay as healthy and strong and flexible as possible,” says Freda Lindley from Arizona.
The bottom line: As more Americans in rural communities choose MA, research shows that the program’s growth can contribute to increased financial stability and reduced hospital closure risks. MA delivers on affordability, quality, health outcomes, and access when it comes to serving rural Americans.
