Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Office of Representative Kind

Six members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently met virtually with the office of Representative Ron Kind (D-WI-03) to discuss how Medicare Advantage provides seniors and people with disabilities with high-quality health care coverage.

Coalition member Dan shared that he has been covered by Medicare Advantage for five years, and he loves that the cap on his out-of-pocket costs through Medicare Advantage is both reasonable and straightforward. He added that he loves the vision and hearing benefits that come with his Medicare Advantage coverage saying, “the extra benefits and out-of-pocket max really help me budget on a fixed income.” He told the group he has hip surgery scheduled for next week but isn’t worried about the cost because of his Medicare Advantage plan.

Another Coalition member, Carol, added that the extra benefits are a big deal and offer seniors and people with disabilities more than original Medicare. She said that her Medicare Advantage plan is easy to work with, and “if there are any issues, I can call up my plan and they do a great job of helping to fix the issue.” Carol mentioned she knows many seniors who are very satisfied with their Medicare Advantage coverage and that the program is a positive example of how the government can work with the private sector to offer a great product.

Mandy, another Coalition member, said her Medicare Advantage plan has a monthly savings account and $0 monthly premium. This allows her to control her health care costs because she can completely cover her deductible. She said, “my plan really empowers me to control my own health care.”

Coalition member Rae shared that her Medicare Advantage premium is only $50 a month. She hopes that Congress will “not change anything that might make the program cost more for members.”

Representative Kind’s staff assured CMC members that “Representative Kind is a huge supporter of Medicare Advantage and very glad it’s working for all of you.” She added that it’s very important to Representative Kind that Medicare Advantage continues to deliver high quality benefits while remaining affordable to seniors.
