Coalition Members Meet Virtually with the Office of Senator Rosen

Five members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently participated in a virtual meeting with the office of Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) where they discussed how Medicare Advantage provides high-quality, affordable health care to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Coalition member Corrin shared that it was her second year on Medicare Advantage and before joining, she was had original Medicare with a supplement. While on original Medicare, she had to pay premiums and co-pays and didn’t have dental, vision, or a health club membership — all of which she now has with Medicare Advantage. When she had hip replacement surgery last year, Corrin said the process was easy, and the procedure was inexpensive. She said having access to a gym membership has made recovery simple, because she can access all the exercise machines she needs for physical therapy.

Joe, another Coalition member, punctured his cornea and had to receive a corneal transplant. Even after briefly moving from Reno to Sacramento, Joe said he never had to worry about receiving a large medical bill despite seeing different doctors. As a business owner with employees who rely on him, he is grateful that Medicare Advantage ensured that his finances were not impacted.

Connie, editor of Senior Spectrum magazine, said that many people write to her asking how to enroll in Medicare Advantage because they hear how great the benefits are. She said she personally loves the prescription drug coverage and reminders to pick up her prescriptions from the pharmacy. She has no-cost premiums for her plan yet can still access all the benefits she needs. She closed by saying Medicare Advantage is “a marvelous program for seniors.”

Coalition member Siri shared that Medicare Advantage makes her feel seen even though she is retired. With Medicare Advantage, she said she can live a full life, including attending SilverSneakers classes, which make her feel like someone is truly valuing her health. Now that she is on Medicare Advantage, Siri exercises much more than in the past. She said the program really takes care of her.

Paul, another Coalition member, echoed his support for the many benefits of Medicare Advantage. He said loves the low costs and the benefits he can access, as well as the fact that his “forever” dentist is included in his coverage plan. Paul said he has been able to stay active through the fitness benefits, which help him stay healthy.

Senator Rosen’s staff member thanked the Coalition members for sharing their stories and said that Senator Rosen is a supporter of Medicare Advantage.

The CMC is grateful to the office of Senator Rosen for meeting with our Coalition members and for her continued support of Medicare Advantage.
