Coalition Members Meet with Representative-elect Chavez-DeRemer

January 5, 2023

Five members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) recently spoke with Representative-elect Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR-05) to discuss the value of Medicare Advantage for seniors and Americans with disabilities.

Coalition member James shared that he enrolled in Medicare Advantage after a diving accident. At 40-years-old, the freedom and flexibility he receives through Medicare Advantage has allowed him to work again despite his injuries.

Rosie, another Coalition member, shared her recent experience going to the emergency room. While the visit would have cost her more than $2,000 with original Medicare, Rosie’s bill was just $90 with Medicare Advantage.

CMC member Mary said that because her husband is diabetic, Medicare Advantage is critical to their health. They have been enrolled for more than 10 years, she said, and are grateful for the added wellness program benefit. She said the comprehensive coverage, including vision, dental, and hearing benefits, have been important to them and she looks forward to receiving high-quality care moving forward.

Coalition member Laurie said she was glad to have the opportunity to speak with Representative-elect Chavez-DeRemer to share her positive experiences with Medicare Advantage. Specifically, Laurie described how Medicare Advantage helped her manage her breast cancer treatment with coordinated care and affordable services. She said she also appreciated the follow-up care, including annual mammograms with Medicare Advantage.

Representative-elect Chavez-DeRemer thanked the participants for sharing their stories. She noted that both she and her husband have long been involved with health care and know how extensive the coverage is with Medicare Advantage. As her parents are in their 70s and the Representative-elect is nearing the age of Medicare eligibility herself, she said she appreciates the comprehensive care Medicare Advantage provides. Representative-elect Chavez-DeRemer agreed that seniors need and deserve comprehensive care and noted that she looks forward to working with the Coalition in the future.

The CMC is grateful to Representative-elect Chavez-DeRemer for meeting with our Coalition members.
