Coalition Members Meet with the Office of Representative Phillips

Three members of the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) participated in a meeting with the office of Representative Dean Phillips (D-MN-03) to discuss their experiences with how Medicare Advantage supports seniors and individuals with disabilities, providing better services, better access to care, and better value.

Coalition member Mary Jo switched her health care coverage to Medicare Advantage because of the low prices and ease of use. She said she likes that she can stay with her preferred doctor with her Medicare Advantage coverage. “A huge plus is that I am able to go to whichever doctor I want,” said Mary Jo, a former registered nurse. “I believe that everyone should be able to go to a doctor they are comfortable with and who will provide them with the best care.”

Arne, another Coalition member, shared that he and his wife switched to Medicare Advantage after the program was recommended to them. “I like the [health care] coaching program and have taken advantage of this benefit,” Arne said. “Somebody from my plan has been in touch with me, and we’re in regular contact on a monthly basis over the phone.”

Arne went on to praise the wellness support provided by Medicare Advantage. “I really like … the SilverSneakers program…That has been a great benefit and just one of the advantages with the Medicare Advantage program.”

Beverly, the third coalition member in the meeting, decided to join Medicare Advantage after hearing positive stories from her friends. “I found Medicare Advantage to be the best for me,” she said, after having considered several options. Like Arne, Beverly had positive comments about how the program helps her stay active. She added that she likes the over-the-counter medication benefit, which she uses monthly.

Representative Phillips’ staff thanked the seniors for participating and sharing their stories.

CMC is grateful to the office of Representative Phillips for meeting with our Coalition members and for his continued support of Medicare Advantage.
