Administrator Seema Verma from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced earlier this year that Americans covered by Medicare Advantage will see lower costs in 2020, with the average monthly plan premium expected to decrease by 14%.

“Premiums are at their lowest level in 13 years,” Administrator Verma noted in a recent speech.

For people who are covered by Medicare Advantage, this is great news! Every year, the program delivers better services, better access to care, and better value to more than 23 million Americans. This includes providing reliable health care services for those living with incomes that are less than $20,000 a year.

CMS also announced that more than 500 Medicare Advantage plans would offer expanded benefits in 2020. For example, some plan benefits will include:

  • Cooking classes to help improve diets
  • Air conditioning units to address health needs for those with breathing conditions
  • Transportation to access places of worship, grocery stores, and doctor appointments
  • Virtual doctor visits via phones an tablets to increase convenience for patients

With all this coming down the pipeline, Medicare Advantage will be even more affordable and provide more flexibility. This means Americans who rely on the program will be able to access the right care that works for their individual health needs.

And seniors are noticing: each year, more and more are choosing Medicare Advantage over traditional Medicare. What’s more, 93% of people with Medicare Advantage report that they are satisfied with their plans today.
