CMC Advocates Express Support for Medicare Advantage in Newspapers Across the Country

September 12, 2024

Over the summer, advocates from the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) wrote to their local newspapers across the country to express their support for Medicare Advantage and urge Congress to protect the program. More than 33 million Americans choose Medicare Advantage because of the comprehensive, affordable coverage and care it provides.

Why it matters: Harmful policy changes to the Medicare Advantage program threaten to destabilize the coverage and care of more than 33 million seniors and people with disabilities who choose MA.

What they’re saying:

Sandra McCarver, a senior from Pennsylvania, wrote in PennLive

  • “We need both [Senator Casey and Senator Fetterman] and their colleagues in Congress to continue supporting America’s seniors to preserve the Medicare Advantage that has made such a difference in the lives of Pennsylvania’s seniors. I hope our senators continue to keep up the fight to protect this invaluable program.”

Cornelia Dopkins, a Buffalo resident, wrote in The Buffalo News,

  • “In this critical moment, we need the leadership of [Senator] Schumer and his continued advocacy. Let’s continue to strengthen and support Medicare Advantage, building a health care system that uplifts seniors and caregivers alike, fostering healthier, more resilient communities for years to come.”

Nodesia Hernandez, Onondaga County Legislator for the 17th District of Syracuse, New York, wrote on Syracuse.com

  • “I want to thank [Senator] Schumer for his ongoing support and encourage him to continue advocating for this vital program. By doing so, we ensure that our seniors can access the comprehensive health care they deserve. Let’s work together to protect and preserve Medicare Advantage to maintain and improve quality access to care for the well-being of our community.”

Steve Meyer, a CMC senior from Missouri, wrote in The Missouri Times

  • “During this critical time, we are proud to have leaders in Congress who are committed to fighting for seniors—especially those in leadership roles. Missouri’s own Rep. Jason Smith, Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, is a leading voice. His support for the value Medicare Advantage delivers, especially in the face of challenges and potential funding cuts, has been crucial.”

The bottom line: More than half of America’s seniors choose MA because it provides them better care at lower costs – and they are making their voices heard by urging their elected officials to protect and strengthen the program.
