Senator Udall Discusses the Value of Medicare Advantage with New Mexico Seniors
DECEMBER 15, 2016
Senator Tom Udall joined seniors from the Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) in Albuquerque to discuss the importance of the Medicare Advantage program to seniors in New Mexico. Senator Udall has been recognized by the Coalition for Medicare Choices as a 2016 Medicare Advantage Champion for his leadership in Washington to protect seniors in the program.
“Medicare is a sacred trust with our nation’s seniors and an essential pillar of financial security for millions of Americans,” Udall said. “It is vitally important that Medicare recipients have choices in their health care – and Medicare Advantage provides a high-quality option for hundreds of thousands of New Mexico seniors. I will continue to work to protect that choice for New Mexicans, and I will vigorously fight back against any attempts to weaken Medicare and Medicare Advantage.”
More than 125,000 New Mexico residents have chosen Medicare Advantage plans because of the higher-quality care, financial protections, and added benefits these health care plans provide. Earlier this year, Senator Udall joined a bipartisan letter, along with a majority of the U.S. Senate, urging policymakers to protect seniors in the Medicare Advantage program.
Local seniors also shared their personal stories with Senator Udall about Medicare Advantage, and the importance of preserving seniors’ choices when it comes to health care.
“From my perspective, Medicare Advantage was the only logical choice. The plan I’m enrolled in is low-cost, in terms of premium and prescription drugs costs, and it prioritizes preventative maintenance and health, which is critical for people my age who are still very active”, commented John Lewinger, who facilitated the roundtable discussion.
